Europump Life Cycle Assessment Guidelines for pump units and systems
Environmental performance has become a central concern for customers, regulators, and other stakeholders. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a standardized method used to evaluate the environmental impacts of products across their entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life.
This guidance document provides practical support for applying LCA within the pump industry. Its purpose is to help users structure, perform, and communicate LCA studies in a consistent and transparent way. The guide can be used to support internal product improvement, inform decision-making, and facilitate credible environmental communication, including declarations and footprint reporting.
By offering sector-specific recommendations and aligning with relevant environmental communication standards, this document aims to improve the consistency, comparability, and robustness of LCA studies for pumps and pump units.
EDW Industry Implementation Guide
This guide, prepared by the European Drinking Water industry alliance (EDW), wher Europump is an active member, supports manufacturers and suppliers in understanding and implementing the requirements of Article 11 of the Drinking Water Directive (EU) 2020/2184 and its related acts. It provides practical guidance based on the collective technical expertise and experience of industry representatives across the drinking water materials and products value chain. The supporting documetn can be doanloaded here.
Europump GHG emissions guide
This guideline will serve as a tool for pump manufacturers to calculate the Green House Gas (GHG) emissions from pump units in their use phase according to category 11 of the GHG protocol. The guideline presents potential approaches and concepts to consider when e.g. setting Science Based Targets in relation to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) or in general when calculating the GHG emission from pump units in their use phase.
Hydraulic Institute Engineering Data Library
The HI Engineering Data Library is a comprehensive guide for pump users, pump manufacturers and engineers in need of references for pump principles, calculations and unit conversions. It covers topics like Net Positive Suction Head, Pump and System Curves, and frictional losses, utilizing standards developed by HI and other reputable sources. The data library will be updated frequently with new information.
